How to style your hair in a French Twist!
Stunning Grace Kelly wore her hair in a French twist to the 1955 Academy Awards and since then this hairstyle has been associated with her. She was a queen of the silver screen back in the 1950s, but her beauty is still renowned today!
An elegant hairstyle for a special occasion but also a great choice if you want to add a little twist to your everyday look. This hairstyle has really stood the test of time. It’s incredibly elegant and so easy to do. Just follow my step-by-step guide to recreate this classy look. Time to get twisting, gorgeous!
But before we start… these are the essentials you need:
- Brush (like this cute rectangular paddle hair brush)
- Hair spray
- Hair pins
- Bobby pins
From left… to right
If you want the finished look to twist from left to right, brush your hair to the left side. If you want it to twist from right to left, brush it to the right. See how easy that is 😉 Hold your hair in place with your hand.
I got 99 bobby pins, but can’t find one
Use pins at the back of your hair to hold it in place. This will keep your hair pulled to one side. You can create several criss crosses going vertically up the back of your head for maximum hold. This will keep strands of hair from coming undone during the day and cramping your style 😉
Back-comb your hair with a comb for extra volume. This will also help keep your French twist in place once you’ve finished. Push your hair in smooth, even strokes from the middle of the hair to the base.
This is how we roll
Place your hand underneath the hair and brush it very gently (make sure to brush it to the side so you don’t dislodge the pins). Gently take the back-combed hair and twist it around. Then tucks the ends into the tunnel created by the twist.
Pin it up!
Feed the tip of the pins into the hair culing through the twist and then pin them to the hair along your scalp. Make sure the pins are hidden beneath the twist. This will help keep the twist in place.
Hair spray is life
You can use some extra pins to tuck any loose ends down and under the twist. Spray the finished twist to keep every hair in place. Done! You’re ready to shine with your fabulous Grace Kelly-style French twist. 🙂
